Wasiu Moshood, 27, Tuesday, July 1, was sentenced to two years imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing a Blackberry phone. According to reports from Leadership, Mr. Moshood committed the offence during the commissioning of a new branch of Shoprite on Basorun MKO Abiola Way (former Ring Road) in Ibadan on Friday June 19, 2014. The accused who pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing, appearing before Chief Magistrate, O.A Amzat was was remanded in Agodi Prison till yesterday, the adjourned day.
The presiding Magistrate said that since the accused had pleaded guilty to the charges, he should be remanded at Agodi till the adjourned date.
Efforts by the Magistrate to obtain information from the accused on where he sold the phone, proved abortive, as he declined, claiming that he could not remember, following which the court delivered its judgement.
It was gathered that the phone, estimated at N45,000 belonged to a woman, Adekoya Falilat, who the convict reportedly beat to a stupor because she accused him of theft.
According to the prosecutor, Phillip Amusan, the offence was a violation of Section 390 of the Criminal Code of Oyo State, 2000
