Kwara State Police Command has described thuggery as an act of terrorism. The new Commissioner of Police in the state, Salihu Garba, made the observation in Ilorin yesterday during his maiden press conference.
He warned against defacing or outright destruction of political billboards, saying the command had zero tolerance for thuggery in whatever guise.
“Destroying billboards will not stop the person who will win the election from winning, but that act constitutes a breach of public peace.
“Those that erected the billboards and posters might have spent some money in doing that, so if anyone destroy them, that may lead to chaos,” he stated.
On the security situation in the country, Garba advised Kwarans to be very vigilant and provide the police with necessary information at all times.
He pledged to do all within his power to ensure that the state remained peaceful.
The police boss, who commended journalists for their support and cooperation with the command, urged them to keep the police abreast of information needed to ensure security of lives and property in the state.
