Preparatory to the new school resumption date, UNICEF has trained over 5000 Nigerian school teachers in various capacities to prevent outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country.
This is part of the mechanism set up by UNICEF to address growing fears of parents over the decision by the federal government insisting that the new date of September 22 remains as the resumption date for schools across the country.
According to UNICEF, “as the school year is set to start later this month, teachers in Nigeria are getting a valuable lesson on how knowledge about the Ebola virus can help save lives, contain the disease and avoid stigmatization.”
The exercise which took place in Port Harcourt had more than 5,000 teachers gathered Monday to receive training from the Ebola Emergency Operation Centre (EEOC) teams who explained the best strategies to combat the dreaded disease.
