3 INEC staff arraigned over alleged theft of voters cards

Three members of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Anambra State headquarters, Awka were yesterday arraigned at Atani Magistrate Court in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state over alleged theft of permanent voters cards (PVCs).

The suspects, who were arraigned were Anene Nwokedi (46), Victor Okei (38) and Fredrick Ijoma (43).

The accused persons were charged with office-breaking and stealing, under Section 495(a).

They were also charged with breaking and entering the office of the electoral officer, an offence punishable under Section 381 of Criminal Code Cap.36, Vol.1, revised law of Anambra State of Nigeria, 1991 as amended.”

After the reading of the charges, the accused pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by the trial chief magistrate who also adjourned the case to November 5, 2014 for hearing.
