A group, Doctors On Call Initiative, Africa, has launched a medical alert device called NovaDoc scheme to serve as a platform that would be providing prompt and accessible healthcare to the grassroots people and teach them how to take precautionary measures in case of an outbreak of diseases including the Ebola Virus Disease.
The scheme which is said to be the first in the country has been specifically designed to offer top-level personalized clinical care without the hassles of long hours in the waiting rooms.
It will also improve the existing health structure through the provision of quality and cost-effective healthcare to elderly and underprivileged in both urban and rural sectors of the country.
The Principal Consultant and Project Head, Doctors On Call Initiative (Africa), Dr. Adeloye Adejobi, told journalists during the public presentation of NovaDoc that one of Africa’s greatest challenge remained the provision of quality, cost-effective health care to the underserved in both urban and rural sectors.
Adejobi who is a member of Novaafrica Healthcare Group, said, “From our observations, many people know little or nothing about what is expected of them during medical or domestic emergencies. Our experience among the underserved in both urban and rural sectors within African countries confirmed this conclusion.
“Most women, who are the usual first aiders of the African home and schools, know little about first aid and initial care. The aged community, which we will all be part of someday, presently has little or no attention. Our schemes and services go far beyond all these and this is where we come in to bridge the gap.
“The scheme is basically targetted at the under-privileged, elderly and terminally ill patients, who may be too ill or frail to make the trip out to a doctor’s consulting room; foreigners who may be ill in hotels, guest houses and rental apartments, those at homes, offices, schools and embassies. Part of what we want to do is to make an impact in the society where people can have access even those in the village to get reach at no cost.”
He added that the company has come up with Nigeria’s first android powered, SMS-based provider of 24 hours and weekly personal medical alarm and Doctor-On-Call system designed to help people live more independent and active lives.
“It is a scheme that provides initial care and assistance as well as enable people to live with greater confidence, peace of mind and dignity in their own homes knowing that help is available at the press of a button, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
“We want to make appreciative response to issues as it affects the people by training them on what to know, how to take precautionary measures of what to do in case of an outbreak of diseases including even the Ebola; it all involves how to wash your hands, keep your environment clean and also how to respond to medical emergencies when it comes to first aid.”
He said that NovaDoc medical team has many years of experience in telemedicine, emergency medical service and community-based scheme, which gives the company a competitive edge.
“Our technical expertise allows us to also offer e-solution such as e-health, teleconferencing, mobile laboratory services, and home care services all customized to suit all and sundry”, Adejobi added.
Also speaking, the Ambassador of Portugal to Nigeria, Mr. Simeao Pinto de Mesquita, said Nigeria should count its self lucky to have such important organisations like NovaDoc.
According to him, NovaDoc is an important organisation because of the work they do all over the country.
“For us particularly at the embassies, it is important because, coming into a foreign country without knowing anyone makes it difficult and when you have any problem, you don’t know who to call. So far, all the diplomatic communities have been in touch with NovaDoc and I congratulate Nigeria for that.”
