A woman named Patience Aaron who lives in Afaha Abia village, Nsit Ibom LGA in Akwa Ibom state has been arrested by men of the Akwa Ibom state Police command for allegedly burying her day-old baby alive.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, Gabriel Achong, Patience buried her one day old baby boy in a shallow grave with hopes that the child would die. Fortunately he found and rescued alive seven hours later…

“Patience on September 14th 2014 did bury her one-day-old baby boy in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive” the commissioner said
He also said the woman has been seriously ill since she was arrested and was receiving treatment.

Court Stops SON From Implementing Cement Standards

The Federal High Court sitting in Calabar has restrained the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) from implementing the proposed cement standards it introduced recently.

The ruling was issued by Justice Emmanuel Obile in suit No. FHC/CA/CS/50/14  instituted by the United Cement Company of Nigeria Limited (UniCem)  against the Attorney General of the Federation, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and the son.

In the ruling, the presiding judge urged counsel to SON (the 3rd defendant) to ensure the regulatory body maintains the status quo over the proposed cement standardisation.

The judge warned the counsel to SON, D. S. Lawson– Ogaree of Rickey Tarfa (SAN) and Co., to advise their client to stay action on the implementation of the controversial standardisation pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

The ruling was sequel to a report from UniCem’s counsel led by E. Monjok Agom who informed the court of continuous threat to his client and purported plan to implement the controversial standardisation by SON, even as the matter is in court.

The process of reviewing the cement standard by son is surrounded in controversy as professional bodies like Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), cement manufacturers among other stakeholders have cried foul over the process.

After the ruling, the matter was adjourned to November 17 to enable son file its preliminary objection which the court agreed would be taken together with the other pending applications.

Woman Pours Hot Water On 12-Year-Old Housemaid

The police have arraigned one Mrs. Bethelyn Falade for allegedly torturing her housemaid with hot water.

The 27-year-old woman was said to have poured the hot water on the girl, Chinecherem Sunday, as punishment for her stubbornness.

The police said the hot water inflicted wounds on her chest in the process.

It was gathered that Falade’s act was triggered by her missing laptop which the housemaid said was taken by her brother-in-law, identified simply as Lekan, while she was not around.

Nigeriana learnt that the woman faulted Sunday’s explanation, saying that the housemaid ought to have notified her before she inquired of the laptop.

Police said the Abia State-born Falade, in a burst of anger, grabbed a kettle on the gas cooker and poured it on the girl.

It was said that Falade’s neighbours on Church Street, Powerline, in the Ijaiye-Ojokoro area of Lagos, alerted a human rights group to the incident, having sighted the victim’s burnt chest. The group, it was learnt, reported the case to the police who eventually arrested Falade.

Falade appeared before a Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ojokoro in the Ifako-IJaiye area of the state on two counts of maltreatment and assault.

The prosecutor, Lugard Ahonle, said the charges, to which the accused pleaded not guilty, were contrary to and punishable under sections 135 and 171 Vol.44 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The counts read, “That you, Bethelyn Falade, of Church Street, off Cole Street, Powerline, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully and indecently maltreat one Chinecherem Sunday, 12 years, by pouring hot water on her body on August 31, 2014 at about 11pm.

“That you, of the above address, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Chinecherem Sunday by constantly beating her up.”

After the defence counsel pleaded with the court that his client be granted bail in liberal terms, the magistrate, Mrs. T. Akani, admitted him to bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

Akani added that “The sureties must be gainfully employed, present three years of tax payment and their residential addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.”

The matter was adjourned till November 17, 2014 for mention.

History Maker: UAE’s First Female Fighter Pilot Led Airstrike Against ISIS

(CNN) — Maj. Mariam Al Mansouri may be ISIS’ worst nightmare.

The first female fighter pilot in the United Arab Emirates, she led a strike mission this week against the terror group, that country’s ambassador to the United States said Thursday.

“She is (a) fully qualified, highly trained, combat ready pilot, and she led the mission,” Yousef Al Otaiba told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The UAE has joined the United States and a handful of other Arab nations in conducting airstrikes against ISIS in Syria.

This summer, the group declared the establishment of a “caliphate,” an Islamic state stretching across the territory it has conquered. It maintains strict rules for women, who are lashed for infractions such as not being fully covered.

Al Otaiba said the campaign against ISIS basically boils down to the question of what type of society one wants.

“It’s important for us — moderate Arabs, moderate Muslims — to step up and say this is a threat against us. This is more of a threat against us than it is against you. This is not just a threat to our countries. This is a threat to our way of life,” the ambassador told MSNBC.

CNN spoke to Al Mansouri earlier this year about her work. She had wanted to be a fighter pilot since she finished high school, but had to wait until women were allowed.

“At that time, the doors were not open for females to be pilots. So I had to wait almost 10 years for the decision to be taken,” Al Mansouri said.

She stressed there’s no difference between men and women when it comes to defending their country.

“We are in a hot area so that we have to prepare every citizen,” Al Mansouri said. “Of course, everybody is responsible of defending their country — male or female. When the time will come, everybody will jump in.”

Ebola Patients Treated With HIV Drug In Liberia

In west Africa, doctors are struggling to treat the thousands who are already infected with Ebola.And one of them is Dr.Gobee Logan.

The doctor who said desperate times calls for desperate measures. And while the world waits for a verified Ebola drug, he has started treating Ebola patients with an HIV drug called lamivudine. The doctor in an interview said its possible for patients recover from the dreaded disease.

Speaking today, he said he would use every brain cell to save people from the disease which hasn’t been diagnosed a specific treatment yet.“In order for everyone in this unit not to die, I think I need to try this medication” He said.

Testimonies from people he has administered the drug to said they feel much better after using the drug and they are able to move around, work and eat, saying they feel fine and they would be discharged soon.

“They are taking care of us fine. They are giving us medicine fine. We can eat fine. We are feeling fine in our body,” one patient said.

Dr. Logan has tried this drug on fifteen (15) people so far and remarkably, only two (2) people have died.

A representative who interviewed him, He was asked if an effective treatment for the disease can come from his treatment and he said “Yes it’s highly possible”  Top scientists in the U.S  were contacted whether the drug can be used to treat patients successfully.

Favourably, the scientists confirmed that the cells of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) are identical to those of HIV and thus it could be applied but they also quickly added that it needed time to study and a lot of proof as to whether it could be used which woould of course take time.

“Well,… our people are dying and you’re taking about studies?! It’s a matter of doing all that I can as a doctor to save some people’s lives,” the concerned doctor said.

The latest figures from the World Health Organization show more than 1,600 confirmed or suspected deaths from Ebola in Liberia.

He then offered it to his church members who clamoured desperately to have a drink of the petrol as the pastor preached and encouraged them to drink. comparing it to “Iron Brew” and “pineapple juice”. A couple of them even begged the pastor to “please give us some more”.

'Dead' woman heard screaming from inside coffin after being buried alive

Cemetery workers raced to a newly-dug grave after they heard banging and muffled shouting an hour after a 45-year-old woman was buried.

As they grabbed tools and anything they could find, they rushed to dig the grave up again after the woman woke up to find herself buried alive in a coffin.

But tragically, the un-named woman died before her would-be rescuers could reach her inside the plot at a cemetery near Greece’s Thessaloniki.

Now police are probing why the woman was pronounced dead by doctors treating her for cancer, only to be found alive.

Her grieving family arranged her funeral at the graveyard in Peraia, a small town 16 miles south of Thessaloniki, Greece’s main city in the north.

Shortly after the last relatives left the cemetery on Thursday, residents and a group of children playing outside reportedly heard a female voice shouting for help from inside the grave.

They called the police, and began digging up the grave to save her but she had suffocated to death inside the coffin, it was reported.

However, a doctor who was at the scene and examined the woman’s body, said she had been dead for hours and could not have been revived.

Dr Chrissi Matsikoudi told Greek TV channel MEGA: "I just don’t believe it. We did several tests including one for heart failure on the body. It would have been impossible for someone in a state of rigor mortis to have been shouting and hitting the coffin like that.”

A coroner is expected to examine the body.

Meanwhile, relatives of the dead woman say they are considering filing a complaint against the doctors responsible for her treatment at the cancer clinic.

EFCC Arraign Two for $91,000 Internet Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, September 26, 2014 arraigned Dandeson Ebosele Ibhonitie, 26, (a.k.a Dandy James, Connor Mead and Barrister Louis Harpoch and Ohiwerei Charity, 31, before Justice E. F. Ikponmwen of Edo State High Court, Benin-City on a 3- count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.
Ibhonitie and Charity allegedly belong to the group of fraudsters using the internet to defraud unsuspecting victims.
Ibhonitie allegedly defrauded one Mrs. Weidman Andrea Sabrie, a German, of the sum of $ 91,000 (Ninety-One Thousand United States Dollars) by pretending to be an American working in Nigeria for a road construction company.
To access the proceeds of the fraud, Ibhonitie allegedly opened a domiciliary account in the name of one Mr. Steven. He entered into an agreement with Charity, the account officer that opened the account for him, on how the proceeds from the crime will be shared. By the arrangement, Charity was to keep 3 percent of every inflow to herself while 7 percent will go to Ibhonitie. The remaining 90 percent, by the arrangement, went to Steven. However, investigations showed that Ibhonitie was the same as Steven.

When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.
One of the counts read:
"Dandeson Ebosele Ibhonitie (a.k.a Dandy James, Connor Mead, Barrister Louis Harpoch, Brett Francis Steven (still at large) and Ohiwerei Charity on or about the 2nd day of April, 2014 at Benin within the Benin judicial division, with intent to defraud obtained the sum of USD 45,000.00(Forty Five Thousand United State Dollars) from Mrs. Weidman Andrea Sabrie, a German national through Skye Bank of Nigeria Limited Account No: 2520346555 in the name of Dandy James by falsely pretending to her that the said sum of money represented legal fee for Barrister Louis Harpoch for your defense which pretence you knew to be false".

In view of their pleas, prosecuting counsel, Ayokunle Fayanju, prayed the court for a trial date. He also opposed the bail applications of the defendants.

Justice Ikponmwen adjourned the matter till August, 30, 2014 for hearing of bail applications and ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody.

No contravention notice was served on our building before it collapsed - Synagogue

The Synagogue Church this evening denied online reports that the collapsed 6-storey building was at one time sealed by the Lagos state government and a contravention notice served on the church. Below is a statement they posted on their Facebook page...
This is an official communication from The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations regarding some stories currently being reported in the media about the recent incident that happened in The SCOAN.
Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the Vanguard Newspaper of 26th September 2014 titled, ‘Synagogue: We Sealed Off Building Before Collapse – LSBCA’.
In the article, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mrs Abimbola Animashahun Odunayo was quoted as saying that the agency had sealed off the building before it collapsed and that the church ignored the warnings of the agency to stop construction. The story was initially published by online media portal News24.

We deem it necessary to state that the above publication is not true in that:
1. No contravention notice was served on the church before the collapse because there was no reason for the issuance of such notices.
2. The building had never been sealed off for any reason whatsoever before the collapse of 12th September, 2014.
3. At no time was any stop-work notice or directive served on the church or pasted on the building prior to 12th September, 2014.
We however wish to state that the letters that were written to the church by LSBCA were written after the collapse of 12/09/14 in the following order:
1. A letter dated 16/09/2014 Ref No. LASBCA/AL/PCA/DH/01 requesting for the submission of a development permit and approval of structures within the church complex, four days after the building collapsed.
2. A contravention notice dated 17/09/2014 Ref No. AL/LASBCA/DH/PCA/CN 06 alleging certain contraventions, five days after the building collapsed.
3. A letter dated 17/09/14 Ref No. AL/LASBCA/DH/PCA/CN 06 requesting for non-destructive tests for structural stability, five days after the building collapsed.
It must be noted that no sealing or quit notice has been served as the building never called for such.
In the above circumstances, we would like to believe that LSBCA has been quoted out of context with the motive of destroying the ongoing investigation into the case as well as casting doubt on the position of the church that the collapse was due to an attack.
Our attention was also drawn to a publication in Nigeria’s Guardian Newspaper of Friday 26th September 2014 titled, ‘Early Probe Report Indicates Compromise In Synagogue Building.’
The article quoted the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Lagos State, Mr Toyin Ayinde, as saying that one of the columns or pillars of the collapsed building in the church measured 2 feet by 2 feet and that the reinforcement used for the same was 16mm.
This publication is also misleading and untrue. There is no doubt that it was calculated to give the impression that the collapse was due to structural defects as against the position of the church to the contrary.
We hereby request all the involved parties to take the necessary steps towards correcting such dangerous misinformation so as not to mislead the entire country and the international community.
We also urge the media to take necessary steps towards avoiding the publication of unconfirmed stories in future.
We should not pre-empt and interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Manchester United To Raise £91m Transfer Funds With Sales Of Four Big Names As Van Gaal Risks Fan Wrath

Four big names up for sale in squad overhaul, including two crowd favourites.Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could risk the wrath of his supporters with the decision to allow four big-name players to leave the club in the near future in a bid to continue his overhaul of the squad at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have undergone a major rebuilding process since the Dutchman’s arrival, with established names such as Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Nani, and Tom Cleverley being offloaded this summer after experienced duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand also left on free transfers.

Meanwhile, numerous new faces have come in this summer, with big money being spent on the likes of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Ander Herrera and Daley Blind – and the changes don’t appear to be ending there.
With United looking highly vulnerable defensively this season, van Gaal now wants to raise around £91m in transfer funds to bring in big names such as Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels and Atletico Madrid stopper Miranda, as well as other signings further up the pitch.

These players will not come cheap, and United will now look to offload some big names, including two fan favourites in the near future to bring in enough money to continue revamping the squad.

Expected to fetch around £24m, Juan Mata has been linked with a move to Juventus this January, while Atletico Madrid and AS Roma could also be interested in the Spanish playmaker. Mata has not been at his best since making the move to Old Trafford from Chelsea last January, and van Gaal appears to favour the likes of Di Maria and Wayne Rooney in the attacking midfield positions that he can fill. With Arturo Vidal and Kevin Strootman also top targets for the Red Devils, it could be that Mata will be used in swap deals for either of these players.

Not a regular for United so far this season, Robin van Persie’s injury problems may be coming back to haunt him as he enters the twilight years of his career. Real Madrid and Barcelona have recently been linked with the Dutchman, and United may now be ready to jump at the chance to sell him while they can, in an expected £20m deal. This may not go down well with the fans, who have warmed greatly to van Persie since his decision to join the club in a controversial move from rivals Arsenal.

Antonio Valencia

Once a key player for United, Antonio Valencia no longer looks up to the task at Old Trafford and could be offloaded in the near future to any interested club that comes along. The Ecuadorian winger has failed to convince in his new role as a wing-back this season, and simply doesn’t fit into Louis van Gaal’s system. Galatasaray and a number of Spanish clubs are thought to be interested in Valencia, who could move for around £12m.

Another controversial decision, but United may be ready to listen to offers for exciting youngster Adnan Januzaj after recent developments. The Belgian teenager, widely regarded as one of the most promising talents in Europe, has fallen out of favour under van Gaal this season and wants to leave for first-team football. Although the Red Devils would ideally like to loan him out, Juventus are said to be ready to pay as much as £35m for the 19-year-old, which could persuade United to let him go as they have plenty of other options in his position. Money raised from the sales of Januzaj and Mata could also allow the club to sign big-name midfield targets such as Vidal, Strootman or Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, and perhaps even help fund a sensational return for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo next summer.

This beautiful angel, Maisy pictured below was born with no blood in her veins in what is described as a rare condition. It was reported that her blood supply was absorbed by her mum during birth..

Most definitely. Maisy Vignes, 4, has impressed her teachers at Holly Cross Primary School. She was born without a drop of blood in her body but has gone on to make a full recovery.

Sounds like a rare condition?

Maisy was born in December 2009 in County Waterford, Ireland, with a haemoglobin level of zero and had only a thin plasma substance in her veins.

Her blood supply had been entirely absorbed into the body of her mother, Emma, who had to have a Caesarean section six weeks early after it was feared her baby could be brain damaged.

“There were cases recorded of people surviving with a haemoglobin level of four, but for any human to survive after having no blood at all was unheard of,” she said.

Must have been touch and go?

Maisy remained in intensive care for two weeks during which she had to undergo three blood transfusions and a platelet transfusion.

Medical marvel?

“As far as I know there have been no other cases like Maisy’s recorded anywhere in the world,” said Emma.

She added that her daughter has now become the topic of lectures and journal articles. Similar conditions usually happen as a result of a trauma during pregnancy but Emma said her pregnancy was fine until she experienced swelling at 34 weeks.

The doctors believe that the membranes in the womb could have rubbed together to cause a rupture, resulting in Emma absorbing her daughter’s blood.

Full recovery

Since going home on Christmas Day 2009, Maisy has met all developmental milestones and spoke her first word, “Dadda”, at 15 months.

US Airstrikes Hits IS Oil Targets In Syria

The US-led coalition has targeted oil refineries in Syria during a third night of air strikes against Islamic State (IS) militants.

The raids – carried out by US, Saudi and UAE aircraft – killed 14 IS fighters and five civilians in eastern Syria, activists said.

The US military said the refineries generated as much as $2 million (£1.2m) per day in revenue for IS.

US President Barack Obama has vowed to dismantle the IS “network of death”.

IS has seized large areas of Syria and Iraq inrecent months and controls several oilfields. Sales of smuggled crude oil have helped finance its offensive in both countries.

The US has launched nearly 200 air strikes against the militants in Iraq since August and expanded the operation against IS to Syria on Monday.

On Wednesday, the UN Security Council adopted a binding resolution compelling states to prevent their nationals joining jihadists in Iraq and Syria.

President Obama chaired the session and said nations must prevent the recruitment and financing of foreign fighters.

Brazil Releases ‘Good’ Mosquitoes To Fight Dengue Fever

Brazilian researchers in Rio de Janeiro have released thousands of mosquitoes infected with a bacteria that suppresses dengue fever.

The hope is they will multiply, breed and become the majority of mosquitoes, thus reducing cases of the disease.

The initiative is part of a programme also taking place in Australia, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The intercellular bacteria, Wolbachia, being introduced cannot be transmitted to humans.

The programme started in 2012 says Luciano Moreira of the Brazilian research institute Fiocruz, who is leading the project in Brazil .

“Our teams performed weekly visits to the four neighbourhoods in Rio being targeted. Mosquitoes were analysed after collection in special traps.

“Transparency and proper information for the households is a priority. ”

Ten thousands mosquitoes will be released each month for four months with the first release in Tubiacanga, in the north of Rio.

The bacteria Wolbachia is found in 60% of insects. It acts like a vaccine for the mosquito which carries dengue, Aedes aegypti, stopping the dengue virus multiplying in its body.

Wolbachia also has an effect on reproduction. If a contaminated male fertilises the eggs of a female without the bacteria, these eggs do not turn into larvae.

If the male and female are contaminated or if only a female has the bacteria, all future generations of mosquito will carry Wolbachia.

As a result, Aedes mosquitoes with Wolbachia become predominant without researchers having to constantly release more contaminated insects.

In Australia this happened within 10 weeks on average.

The research on Wolbachia began at the University of Monash in Australia in 2008. The researchers allowed the mosquitoes to feed on their own arms for five years because of concerns at the time Wolbachia could infect humans and domestic animals.

Three more neighbourhoods will be targeted next, and large scale studies to evaluate the effect of the strategy are planned for 2016.

Dengue re-emerged in Brazil in 1981 after an absence of more than 20 years.

Over the next 30 years, seven million cases were reported.

Brazil leads the world in the number of dengue cases, with 3.2 million cases and 800 deaths reported in the 2009-2014 period.

The Newly Released Chibok Girl Is Already 4 Months Pregnant

The teenage Chibok girl found dumped near a police station in the Mubi area of Adamawa state is 4 months pregnant and she is seriously suffering from psychological trauma.

Mr Abana said the girl is suffering from trauma and there are signs of physical abuses on her body, saying he believed the insurgents subjected their captives to horrible physical and s*xual abuses.

Sources at the Police Clinic in Yola confirmed that she was on admission at the clinic where she had received treatment but was taken to the Police headquarters in the morning.

A source said the girl might have been referred to a bigger hospital for advanced medical attention.

Senate approves GEJ's $1billion loan to fight Boko Haram

The Senate has approved the $1billion (N165bn) loan requested by President Jonathan in July to help in the fight against terrorism and tackle insecurity in the country. The loan would be used for the purchase of military equipment and the training of military personnel.

Kaduna Killings: N*de Women Barricade Governor’s Convoy [See Photo]

Angered by the recent killings of over 50 persons in their villages, hundreds of half-n**e women yesterday protested before the convoy of Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero in Sanga local government of Kaduna State, accusing the state government of neglecting to protect their lives and properties.

The half-n**e women, dressed in black attire, booed and threw objects at the long convoy of the governor in Fadan Karshi, Sanga local government area.

The women were angry that after not less than seven attacks on their villages, in which not less than 300 villagers were killed since last July, the governor did not visit the place until a few weeks to the primary elections.

Mr Bezard Wuyah, national president of Ninzom Progressive Youths in the local government told reporters in Kaduna about the visit of the governor to Karshin Daji and Fadan Karshi.

“The governor came with hundreds of soldiers, policemen, Roads Safety Corps, SSS, even with a detachment of Prison Guards. It was more of an invasion, not a condolence visit

. Our mothers and sisters who were expecting a sober, caring governor were furious when they saw that it was as a form of intimidation against them so they don’t bare their minds on the negligence they had suffered since gunmen sacked their villages and rendered them homeless?

That was why they were protesting and asking that the governor kills them so that they die and rest. They refused to be cowed,” he said.

US Blocks Nigeria From Buying Military Helicopter

The United States Government has blocked efforts by the Nigerian military to procure US-made Chinook helicopters from Israel for the fight against terrorism across Nigeria, Thisday reports.

According to the findings carried out by the Nigerian newspaper, the US has also refused to provide Nigeria’s security agencies with intelligence needed to defeat Boko Haram insurgents.

It was gathered that the matter would form part of the discussions when President Goodluck Jonathan meets with US President Barack Obama in New York this week.

It would be recalled that President Jonathan departed for New York on Sunday, 21 September, 2014, for the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations.

It is believed that Nigerian Army needs the Chinook helicopters to checkmate Boko Haram insurgents, who move in convoys through arid towns and villages, reinforce troops and supplies and recover dead and wounded soldiers.

The Chinook is a versatile and reliable American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter produced by Boeing. Its primary roles are troops movement, artillery placement and battlefield resupply.

It was also gathered that the helicopter has a number of variants and is used primarily for the transportation of troops, supplies and search and rescue operations. While limited weaponry can be mounted on its door and window for the purpose of enemy attacks.

However, according to defence and intelligence sources, attempts to buy the helicopters and other munitions from, first the US and other Western European countries, have proved to be an impossible task, thus compelling the military to resort to Israel.

A source in the Nigerian Army, who did not want to be named as he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said: “The US government has frustrated Nigeria all the way in our war against terrorism despite its public statements in support of Nigeria.

“They have refused to sell us arms and equipment and even our recent attempt to buy Chinook helicopters, which are manufactured in the US, from the Israelis was blocked, based on unfounded allegations of human rights violations by our troops.

“This is after the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Natanyahu had initially approved the purchase. But because they were supplied by the Americans, the Israelis required a ‘No Objection’ letter from Washington which was refused.

“We had even tried to procure arms from Russia but this was stalled because of the Ukrainian crisis, thus compelling us to turn to other nations like Israel. But even this has been frustrated by the US.”

The source added that it was not just in the area of arms procurement that US has been most unhelpful, adding that contrary to its public stance that it was assisting in the rescue of the abducted schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, the US has done nothing significant to help Nigeria in this regard.

Also speaking on the issue, another military source also stated that the US has refused to share intelligence with Nigerian security forces in a timely manner.

“When we complained they started sharing some intelligence, but days after such intelligence becomes of little value.

“They have blocked us from procuring the helicopters and would not provide us with intelligence despite the fact that they have several drones and sophisticated aircraft overflying the North-east of Nigeria,” the source said.

A security analyst, while commenting on the issue, accused the US of double standards and questioned its intent over the Boko Haram insurgency.

He added that ignoring the threat of Boko Haram could be a strategy that could come to haunt the US in the future.

The analyst also wondered why the US would refuse to assist Nigeria based on unsubstantiated claims of human rights violations, which the Nigerian military has repeatedly denied and insisted are carried out by Boko Haram insurgents wearing Nigerian military uniforms.

South African Party To Sue T.B Joshua

A South African opposition party, Democratic Alliance has said it would sue the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Prophet T. B. Joshua, over the deaths of some of its nationals at the church building collapse in Ikotun, Lagos State.

The party’s parliamentarian, Stevens Mokgalapa, who made this known on Monday said the party intends to write to the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, urging her to assist South African victims of the SCOAN building collapse and their families to sue the prophet, Punch reports.

Speaking shortly after some survivors of the misfortune comprising two orphaned children arrived in Pretoria, Mokgalapa, expressed optimism that the church may be criminally liable.

He called on the South African Minister in Charge of Pretoria, Jeff Radebe, for an investigation by the Nigerian government.

Responding, Radebe, who placed the total death toll from the building collapse on 115, said 80 South Africans were among.

Nkoana-Mashabane, however, stated that the party believes that many lives could have been saved if rescue work had begun immediately after the building collapsed on September 12.

“The Democratic Alliance is quite saddened and concerned about the reports of alleged negligence from the church in Nigeria just after the collapse of the building there.

We also want to get the full disclosure of the assistance of the South African Government and the cooperation of the Nigerian government in as far as the tragedy is concerned,” Nkoana-Mashabane said.

Radebe also reiterated that it was imperative for Nigerian government to quickly conclude its investigation the building collapse, which he alleges has opened up a diplomatic crack between the two African countries.

Also, South African President Jacob Zuma had last week reacted to the tragedy that befell his countrymen at the SCOAN building collapse.

Meanwhile, the clergyman who is yet to respond to bribery claims by a journalist, on September 22, 2014, issued another condolence message to families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate collapse of a guest house belonging to the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN).

Fahad Musanan, 24, was watching the Premier League clash with friends in Uganda when he fainted as Lampard slotted home with minutes to play.

“Fufa is in shock after receiving news about the sudden death of Simba FC player Musana Fahad in Bombo this evening,” read the statement.

“The body is currently at the Bombo Barracks Hospital. Burial arrangements will be communicated later.”

GOOD NEWS!!! Boko Haram Finally Agree To Release ALL Kidnapped Chibok Girls?

Fresh reports say that Boko Haram group has finally agreed to free all the Chibok girls for 18 sect commanders currently in detention.

It would be recalled that less than two weeks ago it was reported that the insurgents had agreed to release only 30 female students abducted in April in exchange for 18 key group members.

The decision was allegedly made after the Nigerian authorities had held secret talks with one of Boko Haram seniors identified as Umar.

This Saturday it was gathered that the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Nigerian government were holding long-time negotiations on the issue.

According to the Nation, the agreement on 219 girls release was reached.

It has been reported that the two parties asked their representatives to go back to their leaders to discuss the new conditions.

At the meeting said to be facilitated by the President, Civil Rights Congress (CRC), Comrade Shehu Sani, it was allegedly claimed that if the girls were tried to be released by force, it might lead to fatalities.

One of those who attended the session said:

“The sect shifted its position and agreed to release all the girls instead of 30 Christian married girls it had promised.But Boko Haram said it does not trust the government going by previous experience.

If the government had respected previous talks, the Chibok girls were initially meant to be off the hook during the Eid-el Fitr festival.

Again about two weeks ago, a delegation was already in Maiduguri until the swap deal was bungled. Some security agents only advised on the release of six out of the 18 leaders of the sect.

They rated the rest 12 as dangerous. When the insurgents found out, they backtracked and demanded the release of the 18 leaders. The development paved the way for the latest talks in Abuja which involved the ICRC.”

The source also said that the Nigerian authorities promised to release the 18 leaders as soon as all the girls were let go.
