12 Yr Old Boy Invents Mosquito Killer Robot

A 12-year old David Cohen from Dallas has invented a robot which could help curb malaria to a large extent as his machine drowns mosquitoes and traps them under water, Huffington Post reports.

Cohen, from Dallas submitted his work to the “Discovery Education 3M Scientist Challenge” and has been selected as one of the competitions’s top ten finalists as he aims to win the $25,000 cash prize, with the title of “America’s Top Young Scientist,” which comes along with an all expenses paid vacation at the finals.

Cohen said: “My sister actually got a pretty bad staph infection from itching a mosquito bite. She was in a lot of pain and could barely walk. It took her a couple weeks to heal with heavy antibiotics.”

Cohen, a high school freshman paired up with mentor, Delony Langer-Anderson a 3M advanced new product development specialist for the project.

Langer-Anderson heaped praises on the pre-teen scientist said: “David looked at the problem of mosquito-borne illnesses in a different way. He asked, ‘What if the mosquito was never born?’ As he’s worked through prototypes and ideas, he’s never lost sight of the idea that if he can stop the mosquito from emerging from the larvae stage, he can prevent them from spreading diseases.”

She said although it is yet to be seen whether Cohen’s invention will reduce the number of malaria or West Nile virus cases, the involvement of such youngsters in solving world problems is a welcome development

“I think that people like David have the potential to impact the futures of people living in our country and in developing regions of the world,” she added.

Nigerian campuses to enjoy lowest data, call & SMS rates as MTN relaunches iPulse

With the increasing desire among youth, especially students in Nigeria tertiary institutions, to have access to faster and affordable connectivity, through voice and data services, MTN has repackaged its iPulse offering to match the popular yearnings among the population. This is seen as an improvement of the Pulse introduced a couple of years ago as it gives special priority to 'iPulse Zones', in other words, all campuses in Nigeria.

According to Bayo Adekanmbi, the Chief Marketing Officer of the telecommunications and ICT company, "through the iPulse, MTN has now made it easier for students in the tertiary institutions to access data and call services at the most affordable price ever on any network in the country".

"At 11kobo per second to any network in Nigeria, after the first minute, and N2 SMS rate in addition to free megabytes and access to social networking apps including Facebook, students will be able to derive maximum satisfaction from every recharge within the campus environment", he added.

Consequently, university campuses in all regions in the country will now be optimised on the network coverage to give students increased access to better connectivity which will support academic and social activities within the school environment.

The MTN iPulse offering was introduced three years ago to facilitate seamless connectivity among the youth community. It has now been repackaged to meet current trends, especially the demand for easy-on-the-pocket data connectivity to surf the internet and keep pace with global advancement in technology and maintain relevance on the social media. To make it easier for the students, the subscription code still remains the same. By dialing *406#, any student can access the most affordable call and data service ever on the campus

“I Don’t Shove Off Female Fans Who Have A Crush On Me, I Introduce Them To My Single Friends”- 2Face

Ace musician, 2Face Idibia is without a single atom of doubt one of Nigeria’s finest and greatest artist of all time. We all know 2Face gets paid heavily for shows but he has kept the amount he charges a secret for me, unlike some other artists who have boasted about how much they charge. In a recent interview with Vanguard, the music legend was asked how much he charges per show and here’s what he had to say;
‘I don’t have a particular fixed fee, it depends on the kind of show and what it is all about.’

When asked on how he handles female fans and how he politely tells them off without making them upset;

For me it’s a case of ‘Hello, thank you very much’, I try to make them know that what they are looking for isn’t possible. I just say ‘Let me introduce you to one of my single friends’.

How I Stole Millions With ATM Cards – 23 Year Old Graduate Confesses

A 23 year old man, Ondavey weize, a graduate of the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Benue state has revealed how he swapped the ATM cards of several people with invalid cards with which he used in withdrawing large sums of money from their account.

Weize who has over sixty ATM cards in his possession said he came into Calabar, the Cross River State capital two weeks ago from Abuja and has succeeded in swapping the ATM cards of many people and withdrawn money from their account with which he spends lavishly in hotels and night clubs.

He said..

“Some of those cards are not valid but many of them are valid. What I do is I monitor people making withdrawals in ATM and I go close to them and pretend to help and when I notice the persons pin number I immediately memorise it and while the person is counting his money, I swap his ATM card with an invalid one and later use it to make withdrawals from his account”.

He said he had used the method to withdraw several millions of naira from people’s account and does not think of returning to the school he graduated from since 2013 to collect his certificate.

“I am not keen in collecting my certificate from my school or going for national service because I make enough cash from my business to take care of my needs”.

Weize who is from Vandeikyia in Benue State said he was introduced into the nefarious business by a friend from Ondo State whom he met in Abuja and they were doing “the business together and after some time we parted our ways and have not seen each other for the past three months”.

The young man was arrested in Calabar over the weekend while trying to swap his card with that of another person in one on the premises of one of the new generation banks on Calabar Road and in his possession was 258,000 .00 in cash

Mr Titilayo Busari, the Cross River State Police Commissioner who paraded the young man called people to be careful whom to ask for assistance while making withdrawals through ATM.

‘They should ask the bank staff to help them or should come with trusted people from their homes to avoid falling into the wrong hands”

I Dislike Musicians Who Become Pompous When They Taste Fame – Daddy Showkey

It is common knowledge that some new generation musicians have been accused of being too proud.

Daddy Showkey says that’s the major thing he dislikes about the music industry.

The respected musician who is known to be very humble told Yes International Magazine

“Hmmm! It is when I see people that were nothing before and when they become something, they start feeling big or when I see pompous people.

I don’t like that! I like humble people. So, as a musician, I believe you must be humble because it is the people that made you to be what you are.

First of all, I grew up in a neighbourhood that is very rough and tough and I did not have any belief in my life that I will become a successful entertainer and I did not even have any belief that I will become anything in life.

But any time I remember my past and that I came out from nothing to something, it keeps me going; I will always be happy because my past gives me joy and that’s why every time that I go to my neighbourhood (Ajegunle), if I see the area, I will say ah, ‘Jegunle! Because it is not easy; it is not easy, my brother!”

I Flaunt My Wealth On Social Media Because Rihanna & Beyonce Are Doing It Too – KCee

Nigeria’s self acclaimed fashion icon, Kcee has revealed the reason why he flaunts his assets on social media.

The Limpopo crooner who recently spoke with Encomium Magazine revealed that it is a norm since even international stars are doing the same.

He said: “Actually, like I said, there is nothing we do as musicians that is secret.

Everything we do is public. There are so many people that are not popular that do more than what we do and nobody cares and nobody want to know what they do.

But for me, even if you don’t do anything, they talk about you, if you do, they still talk about you.

Common, I am just expressing myself..

Even American artistes do the same, from Beyonce to Rihana, and others.

If they get anything, they put it on social media.

If they want to go anywhere, they put it on social media.

I just like to express myself, without bothering myself on what they say.

It is just keeping your real followers or die-hard fans informed about what you do. It’s not a problem.

For those that are criticizing it, it’s normal. No matter who you are on earth, people will critcize you.

People criticise President, Pastors and even Jesus Christ was criticised in the Bible.

So, I don’t care about what they are saying, the only thing I do is to make sure I learn from whatever my fans are saying.

As far as my fashion sense is concerned, I think its 100% correct.”

“I Am One Of Nigeria’s Richest And Most Successful Musicians” – K Solo Says

If Forbes doesn’t declare K-Solo He is ready to declare himself.

The hit-making producer told Punch in a recent interview, although some controversial, the current state of Nigeria’s music scene while also bragging about his wealth.

K-Solo, real name, Solomon Oyeniyi on his divorce from wife & music industry said,

“I had so much bad press that I needed to go away to somewhere else where I could reorganize my life, during that period, I took a close look at the Nigerian music industry.

I found that many artistes were not doing anything new, in terms of content.

Instead of working on new idioms, they were busy recycling old songs – mostly highlife songs that were very popular between the 1960s and 1980s – and repacking them as new hits.

“Also, I have noticed that many so-called musicians are not paying attention to songs.

Nowadays, everybody seems to be concentrating on beats and getting their fans to dance, instead of composing good songs.

The result is that contemporary Nigerian music has lost a great deal of content.

And this is not good for us.”

K-Solo said his music is spiritual that is why he’s been successful with every artiste he has worked with,

Many people don’t understand that my music is spiritual. If I am working with an artiste on a song and there is no chemistry between us, that song won’t be successful.

It is something to do with attraction. There must be something about the artiste that will make me want to do my best for him.

In the absence of this, the chances that we will turn out a hit song are usually very slim.

“If you check Don Jazzy’s profile, for example, you will find that he has worked with a lot of people whose songs have never made a hit in the market.

It is not that those songs are not good; I think it is because there was no chemistry between Don Jazzy and those people,”he says.

On his success, Solomon said

“If you mention the five most successful and richest musicians in Nigeria, I think that I am one of them.

I actually bought a house and some state-of-the-art cars with my earnings from music. I have no other means of livelihood,” he says.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Samklef Reveals Why He’s Angry with Wizkid

A few days back, Music Producer – Samklef took a jab at Wizkid on Twitter with some very disturbing set of tweets. Wizkid did reply but for Samklef, that wasn’t going to be the end of everything. So, we took a walk to Samklef‘s studio to hear all he had to say about his relationship with Wizkid and he spilled it all out and dropped some very heavy facts and NAMES!!! What are you waiting for? Check out notjusok.com exclusive chat with the Noni Master below.

Mr. Sam, what’s going on na?

I’m fine and you?

I’m good o. What’s been happening to you? You’ve been a bit quiet and all that.

Basically, I have not been quiet. I have been trying to put things in place because in this industry, you cannot survive without some certain things. I went to reinforce.

People actually thought you should still be on the major productions right now.

Like I said, I decided to go into Multimedia because I was in that before now. I’m not just an artiste, I am a businessman. So I kinda went back to where I started from because right now, It’s a different ball game all together. I’m still in music as you can see because I just dropped a new single “NANA” featuring Skales and I have been shooting a lot of videos for my friends in the industry. Big things are coming up for me this year. It’s God’s time!

You moved based to the Island. Any reason behind that?

Location is necessary for growth. Island is like the new Hollywood right now. Most of my clients are based on the Island. I just want to start something new. The location change gives more leverage to what I do.

A couple of days ago, there was this uproar on Social Media about your tweets aimed at Wizkid. What happened? Why did you do that?

Okay, basically I have been faithful and loyal to Wizkid for so long. I’m gonna be 30 by next year and of which this guy is a kid and when he came to me, I didn’t look at his age, I was so humble to him because I love his talent and charisma. The only problem I have is that when the fame got to him, It was like we were competing.

Take for instance, I walked up to him in 2011 for Nonilising video shoot and he told me the song was not good enough. 2012 again, I went to his house in Ogudu and presented him with a song – BIG Alomo. Again, Wizkid said the song was not good enough. I said no problem and waited again till 2013 and I now heard what he told a producer about me (name withheld) because I don’t want to involve anybody. This is my fight and I want to face. I sent Wizkid a text in 2013 and I said “Wizkid, why do you treat people who were there for you like sh*t?, I don’t need your money, just respect people and be good”. After that, I forgot the text and kept famzing him. I came to Lekki since January and I have been in the hotel since and I Just moved out about a month ago. I actually wanted to refresh my brain because at a point, I stopped believing in myself. So, I’ve been forcing myself to Wizkid and he has never invited me to his house as I have been the one going to his house on my own. At times, I would knock at his gate and the security will tell me he’s not around. I tried everything possible to get close to this guy but he was not ready to help my career.

People think this is a sort of publicity stunt by you.

It’s not a publicity stunt at all. I just feel this was the right time to respond to all the things he has been saying about me. I just needed to clear the air. People has been asking me why I’ve not been with Wizkid. We are not cool! We are not friends either. He doesn’t know my house. Wizkid has never called me for one day! The only time he called me was last year when I went to his house to help him record “JAIYE JAIYE”. You understand? I got love for this brother but I just want him to learn how to show love and carry people along. I’m not trying to create any beef at all. And the funny thing is that Wizkid went to pay bloggers to be retweeting his tweets and paid PR guys to start fighting me. I’m not fighting Wizkid. I was only trying to prove a point. Why didn’t he reply my accusations? Why is he saying he wishes my family well? I just felt like I should school this young boy.

I actually thought you only produced for him and that was it. Never knew you guys were cool. How did you get to meet Wizkid?

We were never cool. Me and Wizkid were NEVER friends. Let me tell you the story: I met Wizkid through Skales. Skales has been my friend from way back in Obalende through Vector and he heard my beats. I did Durella’s “My Life” back then. So, Skales told him that he has a friend called Samklef. So, Skales brought Wizkid to me and they paid me the first time – 50,000 but for me, it wasn’t about the money. All the while I was working with him, I didn’t cry for money or anything.

Looking back at the SUPERSTAR Album, I heard you were paid just 350k for producing over 6 songs on the album. Was that the agreement?

See, there was no agreement. I did those songs free of charge for them. You understand? So they paid me only N250,000.

250k? For all those songs??

Yeah. And I did not complain or go to any media house but the reason why I’m crying out loud right now is that Wizkid has been saying a lot of things about me and I needed to clear the air. You cannot spoil my own showbusiness. You cannot be spoiling people’s name. Like take for instance, Davido and Wizkid fight, I’m gonna say this right now: Davido was a cool guy. Davido invited Wizkid for Dami Duro video shoot. You people should understand that the issue is not Davido. Ths issue is Wizkid himself. He is smoking too much of Weed and Marijuana and it’s affecting him mentally. He should just calm down.

Now, The new album “AYO” came out and you weren’t even on the production list.

He didn’t invite me! He didn’t call me for it. I don’t beg!

When exactly did this attitude start?

This bad attitude started in 2011.

That’s 3 years ago??

Yeah. And he’s not the only one, you understand? I’ve been famzing Wizkid since 2011. After “Molowo Noni”, everything just changed. After that song, I started begging people for features. People were wondering why I’m not featuring all those stars. Why I’m not featuring D’Prince and the rest and I’m like “I’ve been calling these people for a very long time but they keep porting me”, treating me like I was an upcoming artiste. So, I just had to move on with my life. My new fanbase are loyal to me. Right now, it’s about success.

You were credited for actually bringing Wizkid out in terms of production with that album, according to industry experts. Did he give you props for that?

He didn’t give me props for that. He was listening to what the media people were saying like I was his boss, so he started reacting. He started giving me attitude. He was scared that I might be bigger so he decided to enslave me and then, I became his slave and started calling him boss.

I kinda think he should still be cool with you even if you guys don’t do a lot of business anymore.

No, he didn’t. Okay, let me ask the world this question: Where is Godwin Tom today? Where is Osagie M.et.al?? Where is Rotimi Rudeboy?? Ask Wizkid!! Where is everyone?? Davido was right! So, if you pay people to start tweeting at me, there is no problem. You are famous and you are blessed. I am part of your success and I don’t envy you at all. Before Wizkid met Akon, my friend already hooked the deal. Ossei, my friend has already contacted Akon. They were trying to go through my back and they didn’t want to carry me along on the Akon deal anymore. I was looking at Banky W and Wizkid and just wondering at what they were doing. I was like “Is this life’?? “Is this how people are so selfish??” They paid everybody. eLDee was involved. Tony Nwakalor was there too. Everyone were cheated. These people made me feel like I didn’t know what I was doing.

In some quarters, it is believed that you got into this fight with Wizkid as soon as you got into Skales’ camp.

No, No!! This is not Skales’ fight. This is my fight. Skales got my back and I have got his too but it’s not his fight. I’m just letting people know that I am off from Wizkid’s life. If he calls me tomorrow, fine. I unfollowed him on Twitter already because I’ve been sending him DMs for years and he has never replied me for once.

Now, Wizkid replied to your recent tweets that you guys are family and he’s got love for you, praying for your family and all that.

Does he know my family? Has he been to my house? Does he know my son? Family is blood, family is bond. Family love each other. So, what is he talking about? Wizkid is a child. So, if he is a kid, he should let people teach him how to be a man.

He also said you were at his house about 2 weeks ago.

I went to greet him. He didn’t invite me! I sat down, greeted everyone and I left. That’s how I’ve been doing when I go to his house. I just look at everyone and be like a foolish man. I’ve been going to Wizkid’s house UNIVITED for all my life! Except the day I recorded the JAIYE JAIYE song for him. He called me and I did the recording for him. I still have the template in my hard drive to prove to the world. I don’t want pity but just stating facts.

What exactly has he been saying about you?

He’s been saying my beat is wack. Let me show you a text so that you will understand. The text is from a producer too. Look at what he said. He said “let me tell you, this kid will learn”. He has attitude problem. One of the producers that mae his recent his song just even reconciled with him. I was in studio when was composing “In My Bed”. I was there with him in the studio when he recorded ‘Show You The Money” , vibing with him and all that. I love this guy! You understand?

When all these attitude issues started, did you try reporting him to those that were close to him?

I’m not close to anybody. I know my people.

You didn’t contact Banky W, his boss?

I’m not even close to Banky W. See, nobody calls me and I told myself that I don’t want to sound childish. Osagie is my friend but I didn’t want to involve anyone in this because this is my fight. I did a track in Banky W’s recent album but he didn’t give me credit for it! What exactly do they take me for?

Several Thousands Of Nigerians Dying Like Chickens In Ghana Prisons – Report

According to a special news report carried an online news portal, Constative.com, thousands of Nigerians are languishing in Ghanaian prisons in humiliating and indignity and have called out on the Nigerian government to come to their aid or many of them will die ignominiously.

The report paints a very bleak picture as the site tells the pathetic story of one of such prisoners who have cried out for help. The inmate claims that the Ghanaian authorities single out Nigerians for humiliation and degrading treatment just because they are Nigerians and trample on Nigerian citizens at every little provocation.

It also reports that some of the inmates are jailed for as much as 130 years and they are currently undergoing untold hardship in the country.

This is the pitiful letter written by of the prisoner narrating all they are going through:

My name is Emmanuel Emeka, a prisoner in Ankaful maximum security prison, Cape Coast, ghana. I’m serving a jail-term of 130 years imprisonment and I’m presently in my 8th year.

We appeal to the Nigerian government to please come to our aid. The condition here has been so unbearable for (we) Nigerian prisoners in ghana. We need to reconnect with our families. The Ghanaian police are fond of arresting innocent Nigerians, giving them high sentence of 50 yrs, 70 yrs, 100 yrs, 150 yrs to 200 yrs.

Most of us have spent 8 yrs, 10 yrs, 15 yrs, 17 yrs and 20 yrs inside prison and some have died inside the prison without completing their jail-term. Our families are in the dark, they really don’t know what we are facing. We’ve spent a lot of money trying to appeal in court, but all is to no avail.

Within my 8 years in prison, I have witnessed over 100 deaths of Nigerian citizens in the ghana prison and most of their families are not even aware. They still keep the hope of their return without knowing they are dead and buried with no rites.

We appeal to the government of Nigeria to please act on our behalf so we won’t continue to perish in this peril.

There are many Nigerians in all the 46 prisons in ghana that need help from the Nigerian government. Also the media, kindly keep spreading the message until it finally grips the attention of the able government. To fellow citizens of Nigeria, our brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers, please continue to pray for us and do what you can to return us back home.

Another sad part is that most of us are on sick bed, no drugs for us. This is the unseen hardship Nigerian citizens in all the prisons in Ghana are facing and myself inclusive. I’ve been sick for the past 2 months and they have not taken me to the hospital or give me any drug.

They treat us like animals, they give us dry garri everyday, no access to communication. I know how I suffered to get this phone to send this message to you.

Please, on this message, lies the survival of about 800 to 1000 Nigerian prisoners in the 46 prisons in Ghana who are in this type of high sentence. Help us spread the message to all the four corners of Nigeria to make campaign for our freedom because that is the only hope left for us.

Please spread this message so that it will get to the right quarters.

Wenger : Mesut Ozil To Return Soon

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed Mesut Ozil could return from a knee ligament injury sooner than originally estimated.

The German FA estimated the playmaker’s recovery from a partial rupture of the outer band of the left knee joint would take up to 12 weeks.

But the Frenchman said: “He is out for a while now, I think at least six weeks.”

But Wenger said the German did not reveal any problem at the time.

“I didn’t even know about it,” he said. “At half-time, just before we went out, the physio told me he had a little pain in his knee, but it’s not bad and he wanted to go on.

“I told him ‘if you don’t feel well tell me and I will take you off straight away’, but he never did and I left him on because we needed to find a goal.”

BREAKING NEWS: Stephen Keshi Sacked this Morning, Amodu In!

This comes just after the super eagles won a qualifying game against Sudan, 3-1 in Abuja. Prior to that, Nigeria had struggled in the qualifying stages losing to Congo, and Sudan, and earning a draw in South Africa in their first 3 games. A total of 1 out of 9 points during that stretch.

According to a report by sports analyst, Colins Udoh

The decision was among others announced by the NFF Executive Committee after a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night ‘in the interest of Nigerian football and the desire to ensure qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals’.
Keshi’s technical and backroom staff were also fired along with him. In their place, Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Alloy Agu will join Amodu for the final two games of the qualifying series.
Nigerians have been divided over the performance of the coach with some thinking he deserves to stay on, and others believing he’s tactically not on par with the world class coaches. But after winning the nations cup, and getting to the round of 16 in the World Cup, it’s hard to argue against his achievements. What are your thoughts on this?

Should Stephen Keshi Have Been Fired?

Khloe Kardashian is one newsperson, she has a way of being in the news always, from  O.J Simpson to now Lionel Richie, reality TV star Khloe Kardashian has been hit with another major paternity saga over who is her real dad.

But the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has laughed off the recent report claiming her ‘true father’ is Motown legend singer Lionel Richie.

She says after been bullied for years with rumours that the late Robert Kardashian was not her dad but his client, O.J Simpson, “this is just hilarious.”

According to an earlier report by In Touch Weekly yesterday, Khloe’s latest daddy-discovery was a “stunning game changer in the ongoing paternity saga.”

Khloe told GossipCop: “I’ve had so many dads my head is spinning lol.”

Questions arose over who Khloe’s father was when her mother and manager Kris Jenner admitted to having an affair around the time that Khloe was conceived in her book, Kris Jenner and All Things Kardashian.

Then in 2012, Kris tried to get Khloe to take a paternity test on the family’s reality show to try and put the rumours dogging them to bed. On the show, Kris said: “Khloe has had it with me torturing he over this swab test.”

But Khloe flared up telling her mother, “Seriously, my dad is Robert Kardashian. My other dad is Bruce Jenner…. If you f***ed other people during the same time and you do not know, go on Maury!”

With this new allegation about Lionel being her dad, Khloe is doing nothing but LOL.

US Supreme Court Blocks Texas Abortion Restrictions

The US Supreme Court has blocked key parts of a controversial Texas law enforcing restrictions on abortion.

The court suspended a lower appeals court ruling requiring state clinics to spend large sums of money installing hospital-level upgrades.

A lower court is still considering the overall constitutionality of the law, signed by Governor Rick Perry in 2013.

The ruling means many abortion clinics can reopen, a move that has been welcomed by abortion advocates.

“We’re relieved that the court stepped in to stop this, and we hope this dangerous law is ultimately overturned completely,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Had the law stood, all but eight abortion clinics in the country’s second most populous state would have been closed.

However, Joe Pojman, executive director of Texas Alliance for Life, labelled the court’s decision a “short-term loss, but not necessarily a long-term loss”.

Six of the nine US Supreme Court justices sided with abortion rights advocates.

On October 2, the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans found Texas could require clinics to meet the same surgical standards as hospitals.

Texas Republicans and other conservatives have argued the law will protect women’s health but critics say it is a backdoor way to outlaw abortions, which have been a constitutional right in the US since a landmark Supreme Court ruling in 1973.

In August, US District Judge Lee Yeakel ruled the law was less about public safety and instead about limiting access to abortion services.

Many of the state’s abortion clinics have already closed in the wake of the law, which requires doctors performing abortions to have hospital admitting privileges.

A Young Lady, Gang-R*pe in Kwara State by Eight Men

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Mr. Salihu Garba, on Wednesday said eight young men gang-raped a young lady (name withheld) who lives in Ilorin.

He stated that the police had arrested three of the suspects and were on the trail of the fleeing five suspects.

Parading the alleged rapists and other suspects in Ilorin, he identified the arrested suspects as Kadri Rafiu, Sikiru Jimoh and Mustapha Nasiru.

The police boss said, “On Wednesday, around 2pm, a woman in Ilorin was gang raped by eight boys. In the course of investigation, three of the suspects were arrested and we are on the trail of the remaining suspects.”

One of the suspects, Jimoh, confessed that seven of them actually raped the victim. While regretting their action, he stated that it was the work of Satan.

He said they (victim and suspects) lived in the same neigbourhood, adding that the boyfriend of the victim, identified as Tunji, lured the girl to them while they had a field day forcefully having carnal knowledge of the lady.

Jimoh said, “It is the work of Satan which I deeply regret. Actually, seven of us raped her. We have known one another for sometime as we live in the same street. Her boyfriend, Tunji, invited her and we raped her. Seven of us carried out the act but the boyfriend ran away. I regret my action.”

Another suspect, Rafiu, said he was not involved in the rape. He claimed that he was smoking when policemen arrested him.

“I was not involved in the rape, I was just smoking when policemen arrested and framed me up that I was among the people that raped her. Honestly, I did not rape her,” Rafiu said.

The CP said that the police had arrested no fewer than 12 other suspects for various crimes such as criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, possession of stolen vehicles, being a member of a secret cult and theft.

He appealed to parents and guardians to watch over their children, wards or dependants and provide useful information to the police to ensure a safe society.

Meanwhile, security chiefs in the state have begun moves to curb arms proliferation in the state and stop violence and other criminal activities in the state ahead of the 2015 elections.

They spoke during an inter-agency consultative committee summit which involved all the security agencies in the state. They promised to remain professional and efficient to ensure that the 2015 elections in the state were transparent and credible.

Members of the organised labour, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant stakeholders attended the summit.

The security chiefs also urged political parties and their supporters to abide by electoral rules and regulations, warning that defaulters would face the law.

Garba said, “Let me use this opportunity to sound a note of warning to would be law breakers of our resolve not to hesitate to deal with any electoral offender comprehensively according to the laws of the land.

“To this end, I want to reiterate for emphasis, that we are security agents and not politicians. We are prepared to create a level-playing ground for all the parties as long as the game is played according to its rules.”

Schizophrenia: Common But Manageable

It was a pathetic story punctuated with a little relief before it nose-dived into hopelessness again.

As told by his uncle, a young man, Gideon, suddenly became mentally ill when he was about 18. The general practitioner who first attended to him advised his relations to let him see a psychiatrist and he was taken to the psychiatric hospital. The psychiatrist later diagnosed his illness as schizophrenia.

They were hearing the term for the first time, and because of the difficulty to also correctly pronounce it, Gideon’s relations concluded that it was over for their young son. But the psychiatrist assured them that the case was treatable. And truly, after months of medications and counselling, Gideon bounced back to life.

He wrote his qualifying examinations and secured admission into the polytechnic, where he successfully completed his Ordinary National Diploma. That was the end of the beautiful story, though; as Gideon plunged back into his mental illness three years after the first diagnosis.

What is schizophrenia?

Mental health specialists define schizophrenia as a chronic brain disorder that affects 1.1 per cent of the world’s population. Speaking at this year’s World Mental Health Day organised by the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr. Dapo Adegbaju, says globally, one out of 100 people suffer from this disorder; while in Nigeria, no less than 1.7 million people have schizophrenia.

Adegbaju warns that men and women are at equal risk of developing the disorder. Experts say that “men diagnosed with schizophrenia usually start to show symptoms between their late teens and early 20s; while women usually develop symptoms during their mid-20s to early 30s.”

Schizophrenia may be caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain that causes messages in the brain to get mixed up. And, like many other conditions, it may result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors, the psychiatrist says.

Adegbaju says the condition can be inherited from any of the parents. He warns that in terms of environmental factors, a child could become a victim of the disorder in future if he/she was born in an unhygienic environment where there is no certified health professional to take the delivery.

He is also of the view that social issues such as troubled marriage, joblessness, financial problems, etc., could make an individual become schizophrenic.

Symptoms

Being schizophrenic is a challenge for both the patient and the people who manage him, hence the need to recognise the symptoms in order to be able to help before things get out of hand.

Adegbaju notes that a schizophrenic may be deluded, such that he believes that what other people are saying is not true, especially where it concerns his health. Worse still, he may hallucinate, such that he hears, sees, feels or smells things that people around him do not experience.

And because it’s a form of mental illness, the patient’s speech may become disorganised and meaningless, while his behaviour may also leave much to be desired.

Again, the patient may lose interest in daily, regular activities such as maintaining personal hygiene (bathing, grooming, or getting dressed); he may become apathetic to people around him, and if you are not aware, you may start thinking that it’s because he doesn’t care about others.

Again, Adegabju says, the patient may exhibit inappropriate feelings in certain situations, while he may find it extremely hard to enjoy what was otherwise pleasurable to him before schizophrenia sets in.

“When you begin to notice many of these symptoms in a person, don’t take him to religious house, and don’t pity him; rather, help him to seek psychiatric help when there is still hope that he can be sorted out,” the psychiatrist says.

World Mental Health Day

For this year’s World Mental Health Day, the theme is, “Living with schizophrenia.” The World Health Organisations says the theme was borne out of the need to empathise with the patient on the one hand, and the care givers and the relations on the other.

“Living with this disorder means managing it effectively, such that the patient can live a productive life, and his loved ones don’t have to fear that he would become a destitute person living in the street,” the global body explains.

Treatment is no mean feat

“Though there is no cure for the condition, it can be managed effectively. Depending on the severity, apart from medications, there are opportunities for counselling and follow-ups towards reintegrating the patient into regular way of living,” Adegbaju submits.

In an interview, the Chairperson, Community Outreach of the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Olufunmilayo Akinola, notes that treating any mental illness, one of which is schizophrenia, is not a one-off thing and that it could be expensive.

Akinola says, “This is because this illness requires multi-level treatments that feature many professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, etc., especially because a schizophrenic patient is likely to also suffer from depression and substance abuse.

“And because of the huge amount of money that is sometimes needed to take care of the condition for a long time, patients and their relations are likely to stop accessing medical treatment once the initial symptoms disappear. And that is why a patient that was supposedly okay suddenly falls back on the symptoms, sometimes in a more violent way than he was at the initial stage.”

The General Secretary, Friends of the FNPH, Mr. Lanre Akeredolu, says the association recognises the financial difficulties that sometimes prevent patients from getting adequate care, revealing that the association helps indigent patients by providing financial succour and other help, all of which are geared towards restoring health and dignity to the patient.

Akeredolu says, “People living with schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses have a higher prevalence of physical diseases, compared to the general population. That is why we appeal to the government on the one hand to subsidise the treatment, while we also appeal to members of the public to join hands with us in whatever way they can, with the overall aim of reducing to the barest minimum the incidence of schizophrenia in our society.”

1 Year Old Indian Boy Born With 34 Fingers Toes

A one year old boy in India has broken a world record after being born with 34 fingers and toes.
Akshat Saxena had seven fingers on each hand and ten toes on each foot, according to a spokesman for Guinness World Records.
The child, from Uttar Pradesh in northern India, has since had a series of surgeries to amputate the excess digits. Akshat was born last year without thumbs so doctors are working to reconstruct these out of the fingers they have removed.
His mother Amrita Saxena said: ‘I was so happy to see my baby as it was our first child.‘But later, when I saw his fingers, I was shocked and surprised.
The condition is known as polydactyly, a genetic disorder which can be inherited and gives rise to excess digits. Most commonly, the extra digits appear on the little finger side of the hand.
Mrs Saxena said it was a family friend who convinced them Akshat was extremely special. She said: ‘He read on the internet about the baby born in China with 31 fingers.
Then he said that my boy has broken the record of having 34 fingers. At first, I was not convinced at all. It was hard to believe that my son has broken the record.‘But later, he along with my husband and my younger sister registered the data in the Internet.’
The record was previously held by a six-year-old boy in China who had 15 fingers and 16 toes. The child, who his family refused to name, also had surgery to remove his extra digits. He now has ten fingers and ten toes following a six-and-a-half hour operation at a hospital in Shenyang, Liaoning last March.

Oscar Pistorius Girlfriend’s Mom Rejects Oscar’s Offer, Calling It Blood Money

It was previously reported that Osscar Pistorius sold his house and probably a couple of plots of land to raise money for his bail sometime ago, and now, the paralympian has sold his car to raise a total of R375,000 [N5.5 M] in order to pay his late girlfirend, Reeva Steenkamp’s mother … but for what? killing her daughter?

Well latest reports from the on going trial in Pretoria states June Steenkamp has rejected the Paralympian’s money, calling it “blood money”.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel told parole officer and social worker Annette Vergeer during cross-examination yesterday that, “She rejects that, she doesn’t want blood money.”

Nel further told Vergeer that Pistorius got the R375,000 from selling his car. It was paid into the trust account of the Steenkamp’s lawyer.”Those moneys will be paid back to the accused in full, every cent,” said Nel.

Annette earlier presented her report on Pistorius, which the defence had paid her to compile, to the court and in it, she recommended that Pistorius get three years of correctional supervision and community service for killing Steenkamp.

Nel however was concerned this [the money] was not mentioned in her report so he asked her when she was told the Steenkamps had rejected the money. “I can’t confirm 100 percent but I think it was yesterday,” she replied.

On September 12 Judge Thokozile Masipa found Pistorius guilty of the culpable homicide of his girlfriend, model and law graduate Steenkamp, but not guilty of her murder. Pistorius had claimed he thought there was a burglar in his toilet when he fired four shots through the locked door in the early hours of February 14 last year, killing Steenkamp. The State had argued he killed her during an argument.

Meanwhile outside the court today, fans were seen demanding for the maximum punishment for the athlete. Some were seen raising a rope asking that the star be hanged for taking a life.

Saboteurs Against me –Keshi

Coach Stephen Keshi has alleged there is a gang-up against him not to succeed as nigeria face elimination from next year’s AFCON in Morocco, Africanfootball.comreports.

The African champions are rooted to the bottom of Group A with a single point after three rounds of matches in the qualifying tournament for Morocco 2015.

They must now win their remaining three matches and hope other results in the group go their way if they were to qualify for the championship.

“There is a sabotage by some people, who I won’t mention their names but who know themselves. They want to run this team down,” blasted a bitter Keshi, who has won only a game in his last 11 matches.

“Some people are ready to sell this country for a dime. They want to sabotage the Super Eagles.

“It’s a shame. They don’t want this team to get to the AFCON, they want this team to lose outright. But they are not God.

“And this is not Keshi’s team. This is a national team. Keshi is a professional coach and after this (assignment), he will get another job elsewhere.”

Keshi’s fall with the Eagles hit the peak with an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to Sudan in Khartoum on Saturday. nigeria host Sudan, who are now third in the standings with three points, in a reverse fixture on Wednesday in Abuja.

And next month, they then travel to second-placed Congo before they welcome Group A leaders South Africa to round up the qualifiers.

Martin shines in Beijing

Ireland’s Dan Martin took the fourth stage of the Tour of Beijing with an extraordinary uphill sprint on Monday, but Belgian Philippe Gilbert stayed just close enough to keep the overall lead, AFP reports.

Martin, who won the Tour of Lombardy earlier this month, struck in the last kilometre of the long climb up Miaofeng mountain in Mentougou, after a series of attacks had been reeled in by the peloton.

He opened up a gap but overnight leader Gilbert – who is not known as a climber – was kept in touch by his BMC teammates and crossed the line just two seconds behind the Garmin-Sharp rider.

With bonuses, that meant Martin rose to second place in the general classification, but was still three seconds behind the Belgian.

The 157-kilometre stage took place under clear skies in the wooded hills north of Beijing, some of the green trees dappled in autumnal hues – a contrast to the heavy pollution earlier in the event that forced Saturday’s second stage to be cut short.

Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim insults a fan on her Instagram page calling his mother a goat and host of other harsh insults.

The actress who recently spoke up about her crashed marriage posted a photo of herself with American singer Bobby V and two fans called her out, accusing her of sexual frivolities and she shot back at both of them.

This how the conversation went between Ibrahim and both fans :

Islamic State Crisis: Kurds ‘Recapture Key Kobane Hill’

Kurdish fighters battling Islamic State (IS) say they have recaptured a strategically important hilltop west of Kobane on Syria’s border with Turkey.

The advances were made after a series of air strikes by the US-led coalition.

The hill, Tall Shair, was captured more than 10 days ago by IS militants, who have besieged the area for a month.

Later on Tuesday, US President Barack Obama will hold talks with military chiefs from more than 20 countries on how to combat IS in syria and Iraq.

Correspondents say the meeting in Washington is the first time such high-ranking military officials from so many countries have come together since the US-led coalition was formed last month.

Suicide bombings

The battle for Kobane, a predominantly Kurdish town, has emerged as a major test of whether the coalition’s air campaign can push back IS.

Two weeks of air strikes against IS targets in and around Kobane have allowed Kurdish fighters to slow the jihadists’ advance, but Turkish and Western leaders have warned that the town is still likely to fall.

BREAKING: Bola Tinubu Exposed, He is Finished – Mr. Aye Dee

Just when you thought the storm was over, now trending Mr. Aye Dee shocks Nigerians one more time!!

He took to Twitter yesterday to throw fire and petrol at APC National Leader and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Aye Dee, real name Mukhtar Alexander Dan’Iyan, Tinubu and his wife were once drug barons in the US. That as much fun as we make of Buruji Kashamu for being wanted in the USA for heroin distribution, bola tinubu and his wife, Remi, were also involved in the distribution of the drug in the late 80s, early 90s. But that their career in the drug trade was  cut short when they were apprehended by the US government. Aye Dee even went on to say that Tinubu isn’t even the APC leader’s real name. Very ghen ghen expose.
