Plateau State Governor, Mr. Jonah Jang, is expected to move into the newly-constructed Government House in Rayfield on September 5. The office was constructed at the cost of N9.6bn
Consequently, the government house and lodge in Jishe will be occupied by the traditional ruler of the Berom people and Chairman of the Plateau state traditional council, Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Gyang Buba.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs. Olivia Dazyam, who disclosed this after an extraordinary state executive council meeting on Tuesday, said the relocation was approved after due deliberations.
She said the cost was revised up from N4bn to over N9.6bn to take care of additional works.
According to her, the relocation became expedient because the old one was originally meant for presidential lodge, and had become inadequate for the use of the governor.
Dazyam said construction work at the new government office is nearing completion stages.
She said, “The council also received and approved the memo for the movement of the palace of the Gbong Gwom to the government house and lodge, Jishe for reasons of convenience and adequate space with the strengthening of yen person of the Gbong Gwom and the institution of the state traditional council.”
She said the old palace would become a museum where every local government area in the state would be adequately represented.
