The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to go on strike by july 1.how many more would die before this epidemic is settled?

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has threatened to shut down the health care system of the country come July 1 due to the government’s failure to honour their demands.

The Oyo State NMA Chairman, Prof Adefolarin Malomo while addressing journalist today, Thursday in Ibadan, noted that the association has express their determination to embarked on an indefinite strike from July 1 to the federal government through an open letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation dated 11th June.

“Nigerians will remember that the NMA had taken a stance that strictly abhors strike and has taken several steps to show her commitment to the position, even under extreme pressures and provocation. However, such commitment to honour and nobility has been treated underestimation and neglect and such won’t happen in certain situations and societies.

” Things have deteriorated to the point when even regulatory bodies now open trade words, hospital e‎stablishments have reached such disorganised and dysfunctional levels that patient care, standard training and research are no longer merely threatened but stalled and endangered” he said

Malomo wondered why government is asking people who are not engineers or researchers ‎to oversee equipment and research laboratories, adding that government is awarding allowances as if there are no rules of propriety to follow.

He lamented that the sacred and sober atmosphere of patient care in hospitals has been grossly perverted in recent times

The NMA boss said no one with good judgement we think and ask them to sit and have injustices, threats and injuries to their profession.

According to him, NMA is taking the painful route because silence and gentle approach to the contending issues have been taken for granted by the government.

He advised all patients to bear the possible stroke in mind in their plans with their doctors.

Malomo urged all doctors, especially in Oyo State to begin to make plans that will enable them undertake the strike.
