Nigerian Military Arrests Key Player In Chibok School Abduction

A terrorists’ intelligence cell headed by a businessman who participated actively in the abduction of schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State has been busted by troops. The man, Babuji Ya’ari who is also a member of the youth vigilante group popularly known as Civilian JTF which he uses as cover while remaining an active terrorist, also spearheaded the m****r of the Emir of Gwoza. His main role in the group is to spy and gather information for the terrorists group.

Babuji has been co-ordinating several deadly attacks in Maiduguri since 2011, including the daring attacks on Customs and military locations as well as the planting of IEDs in several locations in the town.

The arrest of the businessman who is known to deal in tricycles has also yielded some vital information and facilitated the arrest of other members of the terrorists’ intelligence cell who are women. One of them, Hafsat Bako had earlier fled to Gombe State to avoid suspicion but was tracked and arrested. Prior to her arrest, Hafsat coordinated the payment of other operatives on the payroll of the group. In her confession, she disclosed that a minimum of N10,000 is paid to each operative depending on the enormity of his task.

Another female suspect named Haj Kaka who doubles as an armourer and a spy for the terrorists group has also been arrested. Until their arrest, all the suspects actively operated a terrorists’ intelligence cell in collaboration with others still at large.

In another development, troops deployed in Goniri, Yobe State, over the weekend, had an encounter with terrorists, resulting in casualties on both sides after the attack was successfully repelled.

Charly Boy Disgraces Gov. Okorocha Yesterday At Father’s Burial

The first son of  late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa,  Charly boy, yesterday disgraced Governor Rochas Okorocha at an Arequiem mass organized for his father in Imo State.

Chief Okorocha, was stopped midway into his speech, by Charly Boy when the Catholic Bishop invited him to the alter to pay his tribute to the fallen judge. Charly boy walked up angrily to the altar, snatched the micro-phone from the governor, and yelled at the Bishop for giving him the micro-phone to pay tribute to his father.

A lot of people have said, Charly boy decided to disgrace him, when his government allegedly said they gave his family N20m for his father’s burial, which is far from the truth.
Charly boy hasn’t said anything since yesterday’s incident, but the State Government has described the incident has Ugly and regrettable. They also accused Charly boy for working for other parties who are against Rochas administration.

“It is highly regrettable that the son of the late Justice, Mr Charles Emeka Oputa, aka, Charly Boy, threw caution to the wind and turned the church service into a political theatre that saw him acting or playing out the script he drafted in Abuja with some Imo politicians, who have remained cowed by the overwhelming popularity of Governor Rochas Okorocha”,

”We condemn that ugly incident and also wish to advise politicians from the state to stop heating up the polity over power since God is the giver of power. In 2015, God will decide who will be governor of Imo State and when God decides that, there is nothing anybody can do about it”,  Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Media, Mr Sam Onwuemodo said.

He also insisted that, the state government made substantial financial input and also organized a special day of tributes for the late Justice at the expense of state government with Charly Boy and  other members of his family present.

He however did not make any reference to the N20m said to have been given to the family.

82 students bag ‘first class degree’ at Covenant University

Eighty two students of the Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, on Friday bagged first class degrees at its 2013/12014 convocation.

The Chancellor of the University, David Oyedepo, disclosed this at the 9th convocation and the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees and presentation of prizes to deserving students and eminent citizens.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 1,429 students comprising 1,334 undergraduates and 95 post graduates received various degrees during the convocation. In addition to the 82 students that bagged first class honours, 594 bagged second class upper division honours, 531 bagged second class lower division honours while 127 bagged third class honours.

Oyedepo said that the institution in its 12 years of existence had maintained a culture of excellence in education and this had produced significant results.

He said the institution had received recognitions nationally and internationally. He said that for two years running, first class graduates of the institution emerged tops in the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development (PRESSID) in Nigeria (2013 and 2014).

“Our graduates are recognised all over the world while most of them have gained postgraduate admissions to world-class universities where they stamped their indelible footprints in the academia and the world,” Oyedepo said.

He urged the Federal Government to partner with the nation’s universities to provide solution to the security challenges in the country.

He said that the only way the Nigerian universities could be relevant in solving societal problems was to continue to carry out researches that would resolve political and cultural challenges. Chance Ayo, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, said that the university was committed to producing quality graduates for accelerated national development.

Nigeria Won’t Be Easy, But We Are Ready – France

French Coach, Didier Deschamps has revealed that he believes that Nigeria won’t be an easy opponent in the round of 16 clash on monday at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Keshi’s led Super Eagles are facing the French National team next and all the bookmakers have already chosen the French team as favorites.

Deschamps had captained the victorious French side in 1998 and has warned his boys not to underrate the African team.

He said: Some people thought we were the kings of the world after beating Switzerland 5-2 but Ecuador showed they have qualities, and Argentina had a difficult match against Nigeria.

“Nigeria are a strong, fast team who have great qualities and it is going to be a really difficult match and we will have to fight,” Deschamps revealed after watching his team drew with Ecuador.

“My team selection was not by chance and it’s important that all players get into the rhythm. Now we have five days to prepare for our game against Nigeria. “They had a team with 10 players in front of us defending well. We had an enormous number of chances and we are disappointed we were not as effective as in our previous matches,” he said.

However Top striker Karim Benzema has told his teammates to expect a tougher encounter against Nigeria, saying the Eagle’s team are not a pushover.

He said: “There are no easy opponents, we saw this against Ecuador. Now we must rest, recover well and get 100% for the knockout. Nigeria is a good team, it will be difficult but we must do everything to win”, he said.

Nigeria has only met France once in a friendly in Saint-Etienne in 2009, Nigeria won 1-0 by a Joseph Akpala strike.

Ekiti Election Was Fraudulent – Governor Aregbesola Finally Speaks

Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has faulted the Ekiti governorship poll on June 23 which saw PDP candidate Fayose emerge winner saying the All Progressives Congress lost the Ekiti State governorship polls due to fraud and irregularities.

Governor Aregbesola made this known while speaking during the continuation of his re-election campaign in Ikirun on Tuesday.

Aregbesola who recently urged the people of Osun state to go to the polling booths armed with charms and verses from the Quran and Bible as the law does not frown against it, however, said that it was impossible to rig him out in the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun state because he still enjoyed the support of the masses.

Aregbesola, who was obviously excited by the large turnout of his supporters at the campaign, said:

They perpetrated fraud in Ekiti but we are looking at them. They said that my days in office remain 43 days and I just laughed. What they did in Ekiti is not possible here in Osun. Osun is different and they know it.

In 2011, all Yoruba states voted for Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate but Osun people voted for Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who was the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate. We are different in Osun. Don’t let them scare you.

“The people here today have shown that they are solidly behind us. We are not angry about the development in Ekiti State because it is part of democracy. Ekiti people have made their choice.”

The Governor also while said the party will co-operate with security agents he however gave a warning saying: “we are ready to co-operate with the security agents before and during the election. Any security officer who, however, misbehaves during the election will know that we are children of Oduduwa.”

The Director General of the Aregbesola Campaign Organisation, Senator Sola Adeyeye, urged the people of the state to vote wisely by casting their votes for Aregbesola.

He said that those who killed Chief Bola Ige were around the corner seeking to hijack power in the state.

BRAZIL 2104: See What Messi Has To Say About Super Eagles Players

Barcelona superstar and Argentina talisman, Lionel Messi, has rated the Super Eagles players as very good, following the football match between both teams yesterday.

In the match between Argentina and Nigeria, played at Porto Alegre in Brazil yesterday, 25 June, Messi had scored two out of the three goals the country used in defeating the Super Eagles, who had scored 2 goals.

Messi who praised his team for their win, said they have improved from their last two games and will continue to improve and step up their performance as the competition enters its tougher phase, Goal.com reports.

“We saw a good Argentina, despite the two Nigerian goals. Now we want more, we have to keep improving.

“We said before, our strikers had to move a little bit more because we weren’t finding spaces. We had that today and we have to work, so the next game we won’t concede goals,” Messi said.

According to Messi, he is hoping to lead Argentina to their first World Cup trophy since 1986.

He said, “It’s a strange World Cup, with results we weren’t expecting to see. We have to keep calm. We’re still behind our dream, the dream we all want.”

Messi was announced as the man of the match of the encounter between Nigeria and Argentina by FIFA.

However, Nigeria qualified for the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup despite falling to a 3-2 defeat to Argentina.

Speaking to newsmen after the match, head coach of the Nigerian team, Stephen Keshi attributed the Super Eagles defeat to his players giving too much respect to their opponent especially in the first half.

Manchester United Signed Luke Shaw – Done Deal (See Photo)

Manchester United have just confirmed their second signing in two days, and it’s one that is sure to please their fans. Luke Shaw has finally arrived from Southampton FC, for around £30million – the largest fee ever for a teenager in England.

United are a club with a lot of previous when it comes to youngsters. Both Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand cost £30million, and we’re criticised by many. However their longevity and trophy haul speaks for itself, hopefully Luke Shaw can do the same.

Don’t Call Me ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ Again – Davido Warns

He apparently stormed the music industry some years ago as David Adeleke aka ‘Davido’. He has also been well known as ‘Omo Baba Olowo‘ which literally means ‘son of a rich man’ in Yoruba language. As the appellation became what the son of a Nigerian billionaire businessman was known with and the talented young singer even went further to release an album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ with the name as the titled.

Speaking recently on a show, Davido said, ‘I find it annoying when people relate me with my father’s money. I can rely on my money and spend my money on anything I feel like acquiring. I have worked hard for myself and I am working for my kids to also be ‘Omo Baba Olowo’

I guess he said so maybe because he’s tired of people linking him as the son of a wealthy father.

Well! what do you think?

Baba Ijebu No Good! Student Commits S*icide After Losing $3000 USD In World Cup Gamble

A second-year college student has died after jumping from the 7th story of  high rise building in his school  following heavy losses in World Cup gambling.

The student who, simply identified his surname Lin in news reports, committed s*****e after losing a big bet, reportedly over $3000 USD.

A Debt And A Death

A witness who spoke with Information Times said the student might have committed s*****e after pressure from loan sharks.

“I heard him say ‘do not force me’ and ‘give me two more days and I’ll return you the money’

“He talked on the phone for more than 10 minutes. I saw him hang up and stand up and then all in a sudden he just disappeared,” Information Times reported the witness as saying.

An online media quoting a classmate and friend of the deceased student reports that Lin had gambled nearly $7,000 US dollars on several students.

“We heard that he borrowed quite a lot of money and the interest rate was rather high,” another student quoted in the report said.

Deadly China Betting

Lin is now the second Chinese to die in World Cup related circumstances after a 51-year-old former footballer, Li Mingqiang, died of ‘over-excitement’ while watching the Spain-Netherlands match which ended 5-1 in favor of the Orange boys.

China has become the World’s gambling capital and just last week, police in Hong  busted an illegal World Cup betting ring which raked in an astonishing $600 million USD in one week – an all-time record.

Leave Me Alone! Mama G Cries Out: “I Am Not Sleeping With Delta State Politician Mama G is angry and she is telling anyone who cares to hear that she is not sleeping with any man, so they should let her be….

Mama G is angry and she is telling anyone who cares to hear that she is not sleeping with any man, so they should let her be….

A-List Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, who is more popular with her nickname, Mama G, is not happy with the way rumour is flying all over town that she is in a romantic relationship with a Delta State politician,  and former Commissioner at Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Pastor Michael Diden, also known as Ejele.

In fact, Mama G says she is not in any form of a relationship at the moment and is wondering how the rumour began in the first place.

While reacting to the wicked rumour, Mama G was full of anger as she fired:

If I am sleeping with any man, it is not an affair because I am entitled to be married. It cannot become an affair because I am not married and my husband is dead.

Secondly, I don’t have any man in my life and I don’t intend to have any man. I have friends and I am entitled to my own friends like everyone else.

It is really annoying when people begin to talk about you with things you never thought of doing.

So, to clear the air, I don’t have any man in my life but friends; both males and females and I am working hard to make a living for myself so that nobody will say he/she is affecting my life.

I don’t even know the person people are talking about. At this age, I shouldn’t be thinking about having a lover. Instead, I should be thinking how to work seriously to make Nigeria grow.

You have heard Mama G, so get off her back please.

Luis Suarez Speaks Out On Biting Giorgio Chiellini – You Won’t Believe What He Says

Uruguay’s top striker, Luis Suarez has finally spoken on his alleged biting of Giorgio Chiellini in the match between Italy and Uruguay at the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Liverpool striker was caught on camera biting the Italy defender during the match the South Americans won 1-0 courtesy of a solitary goal scored by Diego Godin.

While commenting on the incident in an interview conducted by local reporters after his country’s win which took them through to the knockout rounds, Suares played down the latest incident as ‘just something that happens on the pitch’.

The player who plays in the English Premier League, and who has twice been banned for biting an opponent, said: “These situations arise on the pitch, I’ve collided with his shoulder. It drove me a little crazy too, but these things happen on the pitch. There’s no need to make a story out of it.”

Also, Suarez’s lawyer, Alejandro Balbi, has blamed England and Italy for the hype surrounding the Uruguayan striker’s latest controversy.

However, Balbi has confirmed that they are working on a defence and has insisted the confrontation has been blown out of proportion as a result of the Liverpool man’s history.

Football governing body, FIFA, has confirmed disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the Uruguayan forward, who could be banned for up to two year over the incident.

FIFA is expected to give a verdict on the alleged Suarez biting incident on Thursday, 26 June, 2014.

Meanwhile, many football fans and pundits are united in their view Suarez should receive a lengthy ban for yet another apparent biting offence.

Former England defender Danny Mills has gone a step further – insisting the Uruguayan should be ‘thrown in jail and locked up forever’.

He said: “It has to be the longest ban in football ever. A worldwide ban, not just an international ban,’ he said.

‘It is the third time it has happened and it is a clear bite this time, in a tournament of this magnitude, the most watched tournament in the world. They have got to throw him in jail and lock him up forever.”

The CSKA Moscow forward scored Nigeria’s fastest-ever goal at a World Cup on four minutes, and became their first player to score twice in one game in the tournament.

GOOD NEWS! Chelsea Offers €20m For Nigerian Striker Emmanuel Emenike

Chelsea have lodged a surprise €20m offer with Turkish giants Fenerbahce for Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike and are ready to wrap a deal one of Europe’s most quickest, if not unpredictable forwards once the World Cup concludes.

Emenike has spent less than 12 months with Fener after completing a late switch to Istanbul from Spartak Moscow last summer, but Turkish newspaper Fanatik is reported by the Metro to believe that Chelsea are chasing fresh strike cover in a move that has come completely out of the blue.

Marcos Rojo of Argentina goes for a header against Emmanuel Emenike of Nigeria during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Group F match between Nigeria and Argentina at Estadio Beira-Rio on June 25, 2014 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. (FIFA)

Jose Mourinho still views Atletico Madrid marksman Diego Costa as his number one strike star for next season, with today’s shock move for Emenike completely independent of that long-awaited deal, which is still expected to go through for a fee of £32m before the end of this week.

Nollywood actress Yvonne Nelson, cannot forget her ex-boyfriend Iyanya, as she uses his name to chant some incantations in a movie….

Ghanaian Nollywood actress, Yvonne Nelson, is still not finding it easy to forget her ex-squeeze, Nigerian born hip hop singer, Iyanya Mbuk, the Kukere master.

The actress who obviously is still bitter over their acrimonious break-up after all had thought their relationship was heading for the altar, seizes every opportunity to diss on her ex Waist hunting boyfriend.

In a new movie directed by Frank Rajah, Yvonne plays the wife of a man who cannot perform in bed and she has to carry out a ritual on him and while she is doing so, she chants Iyanya’s name repeatedly.

She later posted the video of the incantation scene on her Twitter handle.

Remember she has on many occasions castigated Iyanya, calling him bad names and at a point, said no good thing would ever come his way.

Is it not time she moves on?

INCREDIBLE: Woman Gives Birth After 14 Years Pregnancy!

Saturday June 7, 2014, will remain the happiest day in the life of Mercy James. Reason? That was the day she miraculously gave birth to a baby girl after 14 years of being pregnant.

The baby was promptly and aptly christined Miracle. And why not? If the mother had delivered at the expected time the child would have been a teenager by now and possibly in secondary school at the JSS 3 level.

Mercy, a single parent, said of her ordeal during the 14 years she was pregnant but could not give birth: “When I first took in, I knew that I was pregnant with signs and test that confirmed that I was. Four months later, I went to hospital for another test, the result showed that I wasn’t pregnant, but had fibroid.

Subsequently, I began to experience bleeding, at least once a day. Sometimes, my tummy would protrude in the semblance of pregnancy. I went to different hospitals, and I kept on receiving the same result that nothing was wrong with me. But deep down inside , I knew that all was not well with me.

Churches and native doctors

“So I was taken aback when a midwife told me I was pregnant. But considering the test which showed I had fibroid, I was angry with the midwife for giving me what I felt was a false prophecy of hope. Thereafter, I started going from one church to another and from one native doctor to the other. The results that I got from them all remained the same. I became more feeble and confused that I prayed for death to come.

“I went again to the midwife two years after and complained to her about the pains that I was going through, she told me again that it was not fibroid but pregnancy; she advised me to be more prayerful so that God will deliver me from the hands of the devil. I kept on praying and at the same time asking myself that if truly I’m pregnant, why is it that the baby was not kicking?

“I bought many concoctions that they said could cure fibroid and drank them. I even drank 12 bottles of a local cleanser but to no avail. This went on for years. Then God took pity on me and decided to wipe my tears.

On the day I gave birth to my baby girl, I initially thought that worms were trying to come out of my body not knowing that it was a baby. This was what I told the midwife when we came to her. But after examining me she told me to push.

I ignored her. I became unconscious for about 15 minutes and when I regained consciousness, I heard the cry of a baby. I was surprised and confused seeing my baby. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Hmm,I thank God for my life and that of my baby Miracle. I named her Miracle because she is truly a miraculous child”.

Miraculous child

The midwife at the Celestial Church of Christ, Kadoso Parish, Ajegunle where Mercy gave birth confirmed the development, especially the role she played.

The woman who simply gave her name as Mrs Ajetima informed thus: “She was pregnant for 14 years and was unable to give birth during this period. Then on Saturday around 6:30am I saw two persons carrying her to this place. When she came inside, I laid her down and asked one of my daughters to examine her, after the examination, I found out that it was a baby that was about coming out and not worms. I asked her to push and she refused. My daughter gave her a hard slap on her laps since she refused to push.

Behold a baby with placenta came out! I started shouting, calling on people to come and see for themselves that Mercy was truly pregnant, because if not, people will start to say that that Celestial woman has given Mercy a baby. Within a twinkle of an eye, the whole place was filled with people. God is wonderful”.

Also affirming the happy development, Mercy’s closest friend, Odunayo Odeyemi had this to say: “I have known mercy for over nine years now. I met her with the pregnancy . In fact, she did not know that she was pregnant. I followed her to many places but her problems kept on increasing. Merely looking at Mercy then before she gave birth, you will notice that she wasn’t okay. I kept advising her to have faith in God because I had experienced the same thing.

8 Kidnapped Victims Rescued At Uncovered Ritualists’ Den Owned By A Pastor In Lagos,

A ritualist den owned by one pastor Ernest Nwankwo, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy was yesterday June 25th uncovered at Ogolonto area in Ikorodu, Lagos, with 8 victims rescued.

According to Vanguard, the den was discovered after a failed attempt by a woman identified as Mrs Rosemary Chukwu, a member of Pastor Nwankwo’s church, to kidnap her neighbor’s 7 year old son, Emeka Emmanuel to the den for rituals.

Sources in the area said around 6.30 am yesterday, Mrs Chukwu lured the little boy who was on his way to fetch water from a well down the road and took him to her house where she locked him in the toilet.

To keep her neighbors from hearing the little boy’s screams for help, Chukwu then instructed her own children to begin a prayer session which they did, shouting on top of their voices. Continue…

Trouble however started when the boy’s mother who stays four buildings from Mrs Chukwu raised alarm after she could not find her son.

A search for the young boy began which Mrs Chukwu also partook in. Minutes into the search, Mrs Chukwu was said to have excused herself, went into her house and then came out with a box on her head, saying she was travelling.

Suspecting foul play, some of the area boys instructed her to put down the suitcase which was opened and the unconscious body of the 7 year old boy was discovered.

A resident of the area, Oyetoye Gbemi who spoke with Vanguard said the area boys descended on her and she confessed it was her pastor who sent her

“She told us she was travelling to the village. But one of the area boys who was among the search party, ordered his colleagues to search the box. Immediately she heard that, she flung the box away and took to her heels. We all suspected something was amiss. When the box was opened, Emmanuel was found inside, half dead. The area boys descended on her and stripped her n***d. On interrogation, she said her pastor, the General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry a.k.a House of Mercy, asked her to bring the boy. The area boys followed her to 319, Lagos Road, Ikorodu, where the church is situated, where they saw her pastor waiting for her. But on sighting the crowd, he took to his heels. But for the arrival of Policemen from Owutu division, the woman would have been lynched. The angry mob also attempted to set the church ablaze but were also prevented by the policemen. They, however, succeeded in torching some parts of the property.” he said

In the process of chasing the fleeing Pastor and burning some part of the church building, area boys forced open a door to a building at 7, Oshodi Street, which was directly at the back of the church building and owned by Pastor Ernest. To everyone’s amazement, men and women, eight in number, chained and looking frail were found in the building. The captives upon interrogation said they were kidnapped from various places like Ogun, Anambra, Bayelsa and Oyo states. One of the captives, a 50 year old woman said she was kidnapped while returning from a night vigil. One of the rescued victim, 52 year old man pictured above without a shirt said he was a commercial bus driver and was kidnapped two years ago.

Power Greed: Africa’s 10 Longest Tenured Dictators

Of the world’s 30 longest-serving leaders – some would call them dictators – 14 are in Africa. Can you guess which ones make the top-10 list?

1. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Equatorial Guinea, 33 years, 3 months
Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has been ruling the tiny, oil-rich West African nation since overthrowing his uncle Marcias in August, 1979, in a bloody palace coup. And While Equatorial Guinea has one of the world’s highest per capita incomes, it ranks quite poorly on the U.N. Human Development Index with the majority of the population lacking basic necessities like clean drinking water.

2. Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, Angola, 33 years, 2 months
Seizing power after the natural death of his predecessor, Jose Eduardo Dos Santos lags just one month behind Obiang, and he comes with an equally unsavory human rights record. According the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), for instance, angola is sub-Saharan Africa’s second-largest oil producer and the seventh-largest supplier to the U.S.. The country is also the world’s fourth-largest producer of rough diamonds. Yet despite these plentiful resources, the people of angola not directly related to the president remain desperately poor with 68 percent of the population living below the poverty line and life expectancy topping out at 41 years.

3. Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe, 33 years, 7 months
Mugabe has been running Zimbabwe since the country gained independence in 1980 – first as prime minister and then from 1987 as president. Despite his age -nearly 90 – Mugabe has vowed he will not step down from his post.

4. Paul Biya, Cameroon, 31 years
Cameroon’s president took over from President Ahmadou Ahidjo in November 1982 and has been in power of the oil-rich nation in Central Africa ever since.

5. Denis Sassou Nguesso, Republic of the Congo, 29 years, 9 months
If he hadn’t lost control of the Congo for five years in 1992, Sassou Nguesso would be at the very top of this list. He first seized power of the country in a February 1979 coup, but lost the country’s first multi-party elections in 1992. After a 1997 civil war, however, he was back in control and was re-elected in 2004 for another seven-year term.

6. King Mswati III, Swaziland, 28 years, 7 months
Sub-Saharan Africa’s last absolute monarch has been ruling his landlocked country since he was crowed in April 1986 at the age of 18 – a. At the time he was the world’s youngest ruling monarch.

7. Yoweri Museveni, Uganda, 27 years, 11 months
Yoweri Museveni seized Kampala in January 1986 following a five-year guerrilla war and declared himself Uganda’s president. Shortly after taking power he banned multiparty politics, although he re-introduced the system again in 1996. Not that it particularly mattered, as Museveni won a fourth term in office in 2011 despite third-time opponent Kizza Besigye’s cries of foul play.

8. Blaise Compaoré, Burkina Faso, 26 years, 1 month
Blaise Campaore has been running Burkina Faso since deposing predecessor Thomas Sankara in an October 1987 coup. Since then he has been winning “landslide victories” (contested by the opposition) in the presidential polls – taking 80 percent of the vote in 2010. And although a law in Burkino Faso was passed in 2005 prohibiting presidents from serving more than two terms, Campoare doesn’t have to abide by it as his country’s constitutional court ruled it could not be applied retroactively.

9. Omar Hassan al-Bashir, Sudan, 24 years, 5 months
In June 1989, Al-Bashir overthrew the democratically elected civilian government and appointed himself president in a bloodless coup. Since he took office his country has been in a state of civil war with more than 1 million reported dead. In March 2009, the International Criminal Court in the Hague issued an arrest warrant for Al-Bashir – a first for a sitting head of state – for instigating crimes against humanity.

10. Idriss Déby Itno, Chad, 22 years 11 months
Déby seized control of Chad during a rebellion against then-President Hissène Hab

Boko Haram members war with snakes, bees in Sambisa forest

The Boko Haram members are now fleeing from Sambisa forest to local government areas across Borno State owing to strange developments in the forest, believed to be a spiritual attack.

One of the arrested sect members, Kolo Mustapha, said that snakes were attacking them in the forest.

“They (our leaders) told us that it was the people of Chibok that are hunting us through diabolical means in the form of snakes.
“Most of us are fleeing because there are too many snakes now in the forest, once they bite, they disappeared and the victims do not last for 24 hours.

“We were told that the people of Chibok local government are the ones turning into snake and attacking us in the forest”, he disclosed.”

Landlord Drags Church To Court Over Unpaid Rent

The landlord of The Lord’s Chosen Church, New Nyanya, Mr Kola Sunmonu, yesterday, sued the church in a Mararaba chief magistrate’s court for allegedly failing to pay rent.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Mr Raphael Nnabuike, told the court that the defendant was supposed to renew the rent annually.

Nnabuike also said the plaintiff had let part of his plot of land, measuring 100ft by 100ft at New Nyanya, to the defendant at the rate of N35,000 each year.

He told the court that the defendant only paid the initial rent of N35,000 on July 3, 2012. Nnabuike said the rent expired on July 3, 2013 but the defendant did not renew the tenancy.

The counsel alleged that the defendant also refused to sign the tenancy agreement which the plaintiff drafted and gave the church.
He told the court that part of the agreement was that the defendant should not erect any permanent structure on the plot.

Nnabuike said the defendant had gone to erect a permanent structure on the  plot.
He tendered a receipt of one year rent payment issued to the defendant by the plaintiff in 2012 as evidence.

The plaintiff, therefore, prayed the court to grant him permission to take immediate possession of his plot and also recover the arrears of six months rent, which amounted to N17,500, from the defendant.

The plaintiff also urged the court to help him recover N20,000, being the legal expenses he incurred from the case.

The pastor of the church, Mr Charles Nnabuife, who was in court without legal representation, told the court that the Lord’s Chosen Church preached what it practiced.

Nnabuife said that the church was not in the court to contest the land with the plaintiff because it was not the owner of the land.
The defendant prayed the court to appeal to the plaintiff to give the church time to settle its rent.

It also prayed the court to beg the plaintiff to sell the said plot of land to the church if he planned to sell it.

The magistrate, Mr Habila Abundaga, asked Nnabuike, counsel to the plaintiff, to wade into the matter and resolve the dispute between the two parties before the adjourned date of July 24.
